The children of Boys Town’s Explorer’s Summer Work Group made a field trip to Godfather’s Pizza Headquarters in Omaha, Neb., July 11 to take part in learning activities and tasty treats.
“The kids were so excited for this trip,” said Jim Pool, Behavioral Interventionist at Boys Town’s Wegner Middle School. “Visits like this give them the opportunity to learn about different work experiences and all of the people at Godfather’s were very generous in showing our kids a fun and positive summer activity.”
During the visit, Rick Ledwich, Godfather’s Director of Research and Development, guided the kids on a tour of Godfather’s test kitchen, explaining how they develop new products and inviting the youth to test one of the kitchen’s latest creations. The Explorers then got a chance to test their new knowledge by crafting their own pizzas and enjoying them for lunch.
“It’s very important to us to be involved with an organization like Boys Town that helps kids,” said Ledwich. “The partnership Godfather’s has with Boys Town has been great over the years and activities with the kids are especially rewarding for everyone involved.”
The Explorer’s Summer Work Group program is designed for Boys Town’s younger youth, up to age 12, and allows them to learn about fun and safe activities. The kids are currently building their own Putt-Putt golf course and trips to the Peter Kiewit Institute of Engineering and the Arctic Ice Company will take place later this summer.
