Boys Town youth and families went the extra mile, joining a group of 550 Omaha community members to participate in the annual CROP Walk for Hunger Sunday, Oct. 12.
“The CROP Walk is important for our youth because it makes them aware of others around the world who are fighting hunger,” said Josh Deason, Boys Town Associate Pastor. “By doing an activity as simple as walking, they are able to make a difference, both locally and nationally, for those that are in need of food.”
The CROP Walk for Hunger, which unites Communities Responding to Overcome Poverty, raises money for food relief in more than 80 countries through Church World Service. Funds raised by walks are also implemented locally as 25 percent of donations stay within the community. Boys Town’s contribution through the walk and donations will benefit help support the Omaha Food Bank.
Each year, Boys Town participates alongside 2,000 other communities across America in a CROP Walk for Hunger. This year, walks across the United States will share more than $3.7 million with food banks, pantries, community gardens and other local efforts nationwide.
