Representatives from Coca-Cola and Wal-Mart presented Boys Town Home Campus with baseball equipment and more than $1,200 in funds July 18 to benefit Boys Town student athletes.
“We are very happy we can play a part in the lives of children and families Boys Town serves,” said Rick Wordekemper, Coca-Cola Enterprises Field Execution Manager. “Athletics can be a great way to get kids motivated and give them direction, so we were thrilled that the donation drive was such a success.”
Coca-Cola partnered with Wal-Mart for the second year in a row to gather donations of gloves, bats, helmets, balls and more during the College World Series. Representatives from the two companies, Boys Town youth, Brent Robinson, Boys Town Athletic Director, and Senator Pete Pirsch gathered for a presentation of the equipment.
“Wal-Mart values Boys Town’s commitment to helping kids and families,” said Chris Anstine, Wal-Mart Market Grocery Merchandiser. “One of our core beliefs is giving back to the community and there is no better investment than taking care of our youth.”
In addition to the equipment, Anstine presented Boys Town with more than $1,200 to help fund athletic programs. These contributions will further encourage athletic participation among Boys Town youth, allowing more than 100 kids to play for baseball, softball and recreational teams.
“It is simple things, like baseball gloves, that help our kids grow and create happy memories,” said Robinson. “Athletics will continue to be a vital part of our efforts to help our children build character, learn sportsmanship and become successful citizens.”
