Boys Town youth and families stuck together for a cause November 2, turning out nearly 100 percent participation to sell honey door to door to benefit the Ollie Webb Center.
“The kids did a great job distributing honey while representing Boys Town in a positive way in the community,” said Josh Deason, Boys Town Associate Pastor. “They were very enthusiastic about using the social skills they’ve been learning to help others.”
The day provided the youth with an opportunity to test out the skills they have learned in school and at home with their Family-Teachers, from simple skills like introducing yourself to more complex skills like initiating conversation and contributing to group activities.
Funds raised by Honey Sunday will help the Ollie Webb Center and The Madonna School for Exceptional Children continue to serve those with developmental disabilities and provide information and support to their families.
“In addition to helping others, our youth also benefit from participating in fundraising activities,” said Deason. “By being a part of a cause that is bigger than them, they learn the value of volunteer work and the importance of giving back to the community.”
This annual event began more than 30 years ago and remains strong with help from children and families at Boys Town, who make up nearly half of the Honey Sunday effort in the Omaha area.
